Intelligent irrigation control
for green facades

Turnkey Product Development Edge & Cloud Operations
Background

Existing irrigation solutions for large-scale green facades are either too imprecise, too rigid, or not scalable enough for projects with many independent irrigation circuits and varying planting. Manual irrigation is not feasible given the system complexity. Improper irrigation wastes plant material and water — and prevents green facades from reaching their full potential — namely, healthy vegetation and a stable microclimate that cool the building, promote biodiversity, and conserve resources.

What we built

A holistic, digital irrigation system – from sensor level to hybrid cloud.

Sensor nodes for decentralized measurement of substrate moisture and temperature – developed, tested, and EMC-certified
Development of a central control unit with sensor integration, pump and solenoid valve control
Local software platform with API, configuration frontend, and real-time dashboard
Hybrid cloud infrastructure with secure remote connectivity, SSO, and automated certificate management
Integration of PoE IP cameras for visual remote monitoring of vegetation
Cellular connectivity for sites without wired internet access
Design, execution, and instrumented evaluation of environmental tests
First small-series production of all components and rollout to customers
Result

The system is now in production deployment across customer sites. bitvox continues to operate the cloud and connectivity infrastructure.
